Sweet Sambal Tumis

All the Sambal recipes are usually very spice, this Sweet Sambal Tumis takes a different route and tastes sweet.

Ingredient:Sweet Sambal Tumis

  • 100g dried chilies
  • 2 tbsp tamarind juice
  • 100g red chilies
  • 1 big onion
  • 10g ginger
  • 250g shallots
  • 10g bird’s eye chilies
  • 15g galangal
  • 15g belacan
  • 1 cup cooking olive oil
  • 30g garlic
  • 50g sugar or palm sugar
  • 1 tsp salt


  1. Into the boiled water add the dried chilies for 5 minutes, drain and get rid of the chili seeds.
  2. In a pan, toast the belacan.
  3. Place into a blender, and add fresh chili, onion, galangal, ginger, shallots and dried chili to it.
  4. Pour ¼ cup of water to it and blend into a smooth paste.
  5. In a pan heat the oil and fry the paste for 20 minutes.
  6. Pour in the tamarind juice, sugar, and salt to it and cook for another 10 minutes.
